On Saturday May 15, representatives from the world famous spirit brand Absolut Vodka held a press conference right here at the Swedish pavilion. Information about the until-now top secret China campaign was shared with the public, and of course www.swedenexpo.com was there photographing and taking notes.
Anywhere in the world, you may easily find an Absolut bottle or spot one of their artsy ads. But one might ask - what does that have to do with Sweden and the Spirit of Innovation? Well, besides the fact that Absolut vodka originated from Åhus, Sweden, Absolut is also one of the most innovative brands when it comes to art and advertising.
It all started in 1985 when Andy Warhol, founder of pop art, was commissioned to create an artwork of the Absolut vodka bottle. After that, a long list of artists joined in and helped revolutionize the way we see art and advertising today. There are well over 800 artworks in the Absolut collection, created by visionaries such as sculptors, fashion designers and painters , all globally renowned.
Today, at the third floor of the Swedish pavilion, Peter Dimulkas, Global Brand Director of Absolut Vodka, explained that the World Expo has always been a platform for innovation, and naturally the Swedish pavilion is the place where Absolut will launch their limited edition Chinese Absolut Vodka bottle. Yes, that's right. In collaboration with famous Chinese avant-garde contemporary artist Gao Yu 高瑀, Absolut created a product especially for China and the Chinese culture. The story behind the art is based on the old Chinese tale Journey to the West which features the Monkey King and how he conquered the world with his 72 transformations. Which also happens to be the name of the limited edition bottle.

If you want to get a taste of the Absolut advertising art, come by the Swedish pavilion and have a look at one of the world's first and only digital choirs, designed by Teenage Engineering. Absolut will also launch a long series of creative and fun activities at the Swedish pavilion during the expo period. |
